The teacher network provides a natural conduit for continuous exchange among the practitioners
of the Materials World Modules (MWM). MWM is committed to establishing and cultivating informal
communication and support networks among developers and users of these materials science
modules. This kind of linkage is absolutely essential for supporting and stimulating teachers
who implement curricular reform and for achieving long-term impact.
The MWM Forum serves as
a pipeline to new innovation on the substance and process of learning. For example, teachers
can exchange project design ideas, ask questions, and develop lessons through the network
medium. The resulting environment also fosters collaboration in projects and group exploration
within and across the districts. Peer feedback is possible for participants in different
schools, states, and even countries.
Teachers can take advantage of network conferencing capabilities to build consensus to produce
basic changes in the education system by addressing such fundamental concerns as the curriculum,
student grouping pattern, the calendar, evaluation/assessment techniques of performance and
achievement, organizational structure, and teacher development.
